Private Health Services Plan (PHSP)

For sole proprietors and unincorporated businesses, WinFlex takes the form of a Private Health Services Plan (PHSP), sanctioned by the Canada Revenue Agency as a legitimate way to write off health and dental expenses. The PHSP lets small businesses deduct 100% of qualified healthcare expenses from their taxable business income.

So, instead of paying your dentist in after-tax dollars and receiving little or no tax relief, these costs are now 100% tax-deductible to your business.   What’s more, you only pay for the services you actually use, and any deposited funds not used in a given year will roll forward indefinitely.

In addition, a stop-loss insurance option we call WinFlex Plus limits the amount you’ll pay on a large unexpected health claim.

This plan has defined annual limits based on your circumstances:

  • Max of $1500 per year for each adult
  • Max of $750 per year for each child

Example

You are married with two children.  You are permitted to deduct from your business income up to $4,500 in total. $1,500 for you as proprietor, $1,500 for your spouse, and $750 for each of your children.

If you have full-time employees, the rules are more complex. Contact us for more information.
